STAUNCH CHARACTERS
Sie erwartet jetzt nicht wirklich dass ich anrufe und sage, dass mir ihr Auftritt gefallen hat, oder? Die Zeiten, die ich mit Menschen verbrachte, die für einen Lacher ihre Mutter verkaufen, sind vorbei. Nachts darauf, als eine andere needy Lady um 23.45 anruft, um Business zu besprechen, ziehe ich mich schon mit dem ersten Satz aus der Affäre. „Ich habe Besuch und ich bin betrunken, ich melde mich.“ Und auch am Sonntag muss sie vergeblich auf meinen Rückruf warten. Office hours. Wenn ich damit jetzt eine Klientin verloren habe, dann war das ein Befreiungsschlag.
Wie klar sich die Welt teilt, wenn man die Stärke des Netzes spürt, in das man verwoben ist. Wie sicher ich in meiner Familie aufgehoben bin, in der Geburts- und der Wahlfamilie. Das ist vielleicht das einzige, wozu Tragödien gut sind, sagt Herr Strike. Sie bringen Dich an die Basis und lenken den Blick aufs Essentielle. Und wenn diese Basis Liebe ist, dann macht Dich das reicher als Geld es könnte und geht noch dazu glatt am Finanzamt vorbei. Menschen, die da sind, wenn sie da sind. I can remember a time when actresses were lamenting that there were no great acting parts for ladies over 40. Three ladies changed that by the sheer power of their acting capabilities. It was impossible NOT to cast them and so script writers got their chances and a silent revolution happened in Hollywood. Meryl, Glenn and you. Nicole, Jodie and Julia wouldn´t be possible if it wasn´t for you.
I fell in love with you in 1982, that means that I have loved you for longer that I haven´t loved you. There was never a moment that I had reason to doubt my fondness and appreciation, never a time when I thought that your perfomance was lacking something. Sure, there were parts in movies that didn´t interest me in the first place, but then, you made them all watchable (except „Prozac Nation“ but we all have to pay our bills.) Last night, when America had the chance to watch the premiere of the movie I most anticipated ever, and that, even „only“ a tv production, got the biggest buzz a tv-movie ever got with, advance premieres in cinemas in New York and LA, I watched one of your few not-so-wonderful-movies and again, it was your perfomance that blew me away. When you´re on the screen, I´m at home. Watching you perform has turned into a familiar part of myself. You were wonderful as a young shining star. You´re breakthrough-role combined glamour with tragedy, it went into the deepest pits of misery and despair and yet you perfomed it with such majesty and grace that this role alone would have sufficed to create your own Hollywood legend. Shame the assholes didn´t give you the Oscar for it and you received the mercy-Oscar for supporting actress instead. Darling, the most wonderful thing is that last night, when everyone would have thought the pinnacle of your carreer had been achieved when you received the other Oscar for female lead in „Blue Sky“ in 1995, everyone was in for a huge surpise. You showed them that an actress your age can still portray a gorgeous glamorous lady and, as in „Frances“, show her in a worse stage of her life with the same truth and sincerity and deliver a true insight into this character´s life which will now forever be melted in your own myth. And one of the most amazing things – in a youth obsessed culture, right now, you create a buzz. At 60. Which brings me back to the beginning – there used to be a time when an actresses carreer was over when she reached forty. And you show them all there´s life and light and darkness and drama beyond 50. I temporarily suspend my boycott and thank God for you. But Darling Jessica, mostly, Glammy says Thank YOU. The world would be poorer without you. You are deep and you are true. You portray cheer and despair and all the subtle emotions and nuances in between with a debth and truthfullness, with sincerity and a splendour that is unequalled. There is no one like you. Your soul is a powerful dragon soaring in the rising sun. I hope you will shine on forever and ever. Happy 60th birthday Miss Jessica Lange! I´m kneeling for ya.

ES MUSS RAUS, ES MUSS RAUS
Den obigen Schriftzug fand ich gestern auf der Innenseite meiner Wohnungstür. Und habe keine Erinnerung daran, das da hingeschrieben zu haben. Ist aber meine Handschrift. Ich muss nur aufpasssen, dass ich in Zukunft nicht schlafwandelnd Petitionen unterschreiben lasse.

Nichts, was man mit einem Trost wieder einrenken könnte.
Ich sitze auf seinem Schoß, weil er neben sich ist und ich neben dem, wo er eigentlich sitzt. Wir haben wohl noch nie soviel Zeit miteinander verbracht und so wenig Worte gewechselt, bei ihm rast es und rattert, bei mir ebenfalls, empathisch, weil ich ihn liebe. Ich hadere mit jedem Wort, ich will nichts banalisieren, denn dies ist nicht banal, ich will nicht dramatisieren, denn dies ist bereits Drama. Von einem Tag auf den anderen hat sich sein Leben von Grund auf geändert und ich versuche Gedankenexperimente. Wenn ich ihn morgen oder in einem Jahr erst kennenlernen würde, dann wäre dieses Dings schon passiert und ich würde nicht so mit ihm mitleiden, dann wäre das eine Tatsache wie die, dass er schön ist, innen und außen. Aber das Dings passiert gerade, ich kann das nur schwer ertragen zuzusehen, wie einem so ein Knüppel vor die Beine gehauen wird, weil ich doch helfen will und machen, dass es weggeht, aber das kann ich nicht, und so fahren wir durch den albernen Frühling, durch Autoabgase und welkende Osterglocken und ich hab mich noch nie so hilflos und so ohnmächtig gefühlt, noch nie.

Amazon bezeichnet den Vorfall jetzt als „embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error for a company that prides itself on offering complete selection.“
„This problem impacted books not just in the United States but globally. It affected not just sales rank but also had the effect of removing the books from Amazon’s main product search. Many books have now been fixed and we’re in the process of fixing the remainder as quickly as possible, and we intend to implement new measures to make this kind of accident less likely to occur in the future.“
So Amazon.com-Sprecherin Patty Smith. Das reicht mir leider noch nicht als Antwort, die erstens zu spät kam und zweitens den früheren Antworten (Stichwort „adult“ im vorhergehenden Beitrag und den Kommentaren) widerspricht. Und wenn es sein muss, dann hätte ich gerne den detaillierten Bericht eines Programmierers, wie so etwas „versehentlich passieren“ kann. Tatsache ist doch, dass mt den tags „gay“, „lesbian“, „homosexuality“ gepfuscht wurde.

Die amerikanische Amazone ist offenbar nicht nur schwach auf der Brust sondern auch weich im Hirn. Hier äußert sich Amazon.com zu den Vorwürfen, seit neuestem schwullesbische Literatur aus den Rankinglisten auszuschließen:
„In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude „adult“ material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature. „
Zur sogenannten „adult literature“ zählen u.a. „Rubyfruit Jungle“ von Rita Mae Brown, „Brokeback Mountain“ von Annie Proulx, „Maurice“ von E.M. Forster, Romane von Isherwood, Jenaette Winterson, Edmund White und der Roman, der mein Teenage rettete, „The Catch Trap“ von Marion Zimmer Bradley.
Geh ich eben von nun an zu Barnes & Noble, bis die wieder einen klaren Kopf haben, bzw. die homophoben Köpfe dort gerollt sind. (Amazon.de und co.uk sind dem Irrsinn noch nicht anheim gefallen. Muss man wohl aber beobachten, bzw besser noch eruieren, wie die dazu stehen.)
